This month, Neutral Wireless were pleased to present to colleagues from the National Frequency Management Council (NFMC) of Nigeria on shared spectrum and the deployment of 5G private networks. Located within the Ministry of Information and Communications, NFMC is the Nigerian body for spectrum management and the primary sponsor of (and influence on) the government’s frequency spectrum policies and legislation.
Presenting with our training partners Cenerva Ltd. as part of the Telecoms Regulator Master Class (TRMC), we took along our Lomond 5G Network-In-a-Box (NIB) and demonstrated how we can set up private shared spectrum networks through Software-Defined Radio (SDR).
Nigeria has the same challenges as the UK and other countries with regards to the provision of rural connectivity, and also shares similar opportunities in terms of what shared spectrum can offer the marketplace for several use cases — such as broadcasting or campus networks.
We look forward to working more with the NFMC and Cenerva in the future. It was excellent to engage again with H from Cenerva (who we believe knows more about spectrum in African countries than anyone else in the world!) and with senior colleagues from the NFMC. This included Professor Sahalu Junaidu — Chief Research Adviser to the Office of the Honourable Minister for the Nigerian Communications Commission (the NCC), pictured 5th from the left in the above photograph, and whom we learned is a Doctorate graduate from St Andrews University in Scotland.
