NW Receive Innovation Award ahead of IBC 2023

We are delighted to announce that our team has been honoured with the Best Technical Paper award as part of the prestigious 2023 IBC Innovation Awards, in collaboration with BBC R&D! Our paper — titled “5G Standalone Non-Public Networks: Modernising Wireless Production” — detailed the exceptional work undertaken in deploying the world’s largest single-use 5G Standalone Non-Public Network at King Charles III’s Coronation. The paper will be available to the public at a later date, but lead authors Sam Yoffe ( Systems Engineer, Neutral Wireless) and Mark Waddell (Lead R&D Engineer, BBC) will be presenting on it at 14.45 CEST, Friday September 15th, at IBC 2023 in Amsterdam.

The Neutral Wireless network provided connectivity to around 60 devices over the course of the day, carrying high-definition video from London to homes across the globe.

Finalists: Innovation in Content Creation

We are also delighted to be a finalist for a second IBC Innovation Award, along with our broadcast partners at BBC News, in the content creation category!

This is in recognition of our Coronation deployment, where Neutral Wireless made use of 80MHz of Ofcom’s n77 shared spectrum band to provide over 1Gbps of uncontested wireless connectivity to 20 of the world’s leading international media outlets.

The IBC 2023 Innovation Awards will be announced in a ceremony in IBC’s Premier Lounge at 18.00 CEST on Sunday, September 17th.

It’s all about Collaboration

The Neutral Wireless team remains immensely proud of our work in London — which IBC Media Accelerator Manager Mark Smith called “an astonishing feat of innovation, engineering and tech ingenuity” — and recognises that this achievement wouldn’t be possible without our collaboration with esteemed partners including BBC R&D, the University of Strathclyde, StrathSDR, LiveU, Sony, Haivision, Cisco, and The Scotland 5G Centre. Meet us at IBC 2023

Following on from last year’s award-winning “5G In the Middle of Nowhere” IBC Accelerator project, Neutral Wireless will this year be involved in the 5G Motion Capture for Live Performance and Animation project. Working with partners such as Cisco, AMD, Noitom Motion Capture, and Outernet London — we will seek to push our ultra low latency non-public networks to their limits to achieve remarkable on-stage live performances from multiple remote locations using 3D motion capture software.

Neutral Wireless will of course be present at this year’s conference, where our team looks forward to meeting old friends, fellow finalists, and future collaborators. You can find us on the Accelerator booth in Hall 3, and we will have multiple demonstrations across the weekend to showcase the capabilities of our networks.
